Discovering CS 4

Course Description

In this course, students embark on a comprehensive exploration of computing systems, mastering hardware, software, and troubleshooting essentials. They unleash creativity through block-based coding in Scratch, designing animations and interactive games like "Sprite Catcher." The curriculum also develops data literacy using Microsoft Excel for organization and prediction. Additionally, students delve into network fundamentals, encryption, and digital ethics. This holistic approach empowers learners with the technical skills and social responsibility needed to thrive in an evolving digital world.

Course Learning Goals
  • Distinguish between hardware and software components and apply systematic troubleshooting for common digital issues.

  • Develop keyboarding proficiency and navigate the Scratch interface to manage digital projects securely.

  • Design animated stories and interactive games using loops, conditionals, and variables in Scratch.

  • Organize, process, and visualize data to gain insights and make predictions using Microsoft Excel.

  • Explain fundamental network concepts, internet connectivity, and the importance of encryption for data security.

  • Practice academic honesty by avoiding plagiarism and recognizing the impact of evolving technologies on society.

  • Create and prepare 3D models for printing using Tinkercad (Elective).
